Disneyland California

Disneyland in California felt more personal than the Florida parks in a few ways. The biggest difference was how often characters were just out in the open, walking around and interacting with kids without everything feeling like a scheduled production.

Owen got to meet Dale right on the street, which was a nice surprise. There is something better about seeing characters casually moving through the park, stopping to play, wave, and joke around with kids face to face. It feels less like waiting in a formal line and more like the park is actually alive around you.

Toontown in Disneyland was a good example of that too. Even the playground area had Goofy and Donald out there having fun with the kids instead of standing in one place for photos. For families with younger kids, that kind of interaction makes a difference. Sometimes the playground is just as important as the ride.

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge was one of the best parts of the park, even though we are not really a Star Wars family. We are more of a Star Trek family, but the theming is hard to ignore. The land is themed so well that you can still get pulled into it, even if you are not someone who knows the lore.

Rise of the Resistance was easily the best ride. We went on it three times, which says enough. It feels more like several ride systems stitched together into one experience than a normal theme park ride. It is impressive, detailed, and still fun after the first time.

Our second favorite was Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway. The ride features trackless vehicles designed to look like a train, then everything starts going wrong in the best way. Like Rise of the Resistance, it feels modern and clever without relying only on speed or drops.

We also made time for the classic rides Owen wanted to do. Pirates of the Caribbean is better in Disneyland, California. It feels longer and more complete, and it has a better flow than the Florida version. It is one of those rides where the original still has the advantage.

Tom Sawyer Island was one of the best slower parts of the day. It gave Owen space to explore, climb, wander, and take a break from standing in lines. On a vacation with kids, places like that matter. Since Florida no longer has its version, this feels like something worth making time for in California.

The Tiki Room was another good reset. It is air conditioned, it gives everyone a chance to sit down, and it still works well for kids. Not every good Disney moment has to involve a big ride.

Food was part of the day in Disneyland. Fresh beignets, mint juleps, and churros all made the park easier to enjoy at a slower pace. Disneyland still has plenty of rushing and lines, but it also has small breaks built in if you look for them.

Overall, Disneyland California felt more relaxed and more hands on than we expected. The rides were strong, especially the newer high tech ones, but the character moments, playgrounds, island exploring, snacks, and places to sit made the day work better as a family trip.
