Oregon Museum of Science and Industry

We spent an afternoon in Oregon at the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI), and it was a hit from the moment we walked in. It was hands-on without being overwhelming with too many other people around.

One highlight was the dinosaur exhibit. Owen pointing at fossil casts, pretending to be a T. rex, and asking about the different displays. The life-size models were impressive, with many featuring movement and sound. The whole setup made it easy for kids to get curious without needing to read a ton of signs.

For Owen, it was a big day of firsts. He saw his very first “real” planetarium show—sitting under the dome, watching stars and constellations swirl overhead. Always being a big fan of space stuff, he was completely locked in, eyes wide, barely blinking. It was also a quiet, calming break!

Another favorite area was the play space themed around Inside Out, There were different zones for emotions like joy, sadness, and anger. Owen ran from one area to the next, climbing, building, and laughing the whole time. It was clever, colorful, and a tough place to walk-away from.
