If you’re like us, one of the most stressful parts of a family vacation is finding places to eat that everyone would enjoy, both adults and children alike. Here are our tips for the Knoxville, Tennessee area:
Hatcher’s on Target BBQ

Our favorite:
“Hatcher’s on Target BBQ” in Alcoa
1366 N Wright Rd, Alcoa, TN 37701
Hatcher’s on Target BBQ is a veteran-owned spot serving up smoky, flavorful barbecue in a casual, down-to-earth setting. Hungry eaters are presented with a menu that is packed with barbecue classics like pulled pork, ribs, and sides, making it a hidden find with the best barbecue we’ve had there.
Paula Deen’s Family Kitchen
131 The Island Dr #8101, Pigeon Forge, TN 37863
Families will quickly agree that Paula Deen’s Family Kitchen is the perfect choice where everything is served family style. It’s a great place for sharing with a group since the order is for the table, not for each person. Our favorite by far was the pot roast — tender, flavorful, and rich with all the comfort of home cooking. From biscuits to sides, every dish encouraged passing plates around the table and enjoying a true Southern feast together.

Sweet P’s Downtown Dive
(Knoxville location has since been permanently closed)
Sweet P’s Downtown Dive is a great lunch spot with a menu full of tasty, satisfying options. Not many of the sides were kid-friendly, but it was still a great choice for families. You should definitely grab a glass of sweet tea. Everything had a casual, welcoming vibe that makes it easy to relax and enjoy a midday meal.
Frizzle Chicken Cafe
2785 Parkway, Pigeon Forge, TN 37863
At Frizzle Chicken, breakfast comes with a side of entertainment thanks to the animatronic chickens singing and dancing around the dining room. The chaos of clucking, moving robotic birds, and strange song choices makes for a hilariously fun atmosphere. Despite the mayhem, the food was good, but it was just typical diner fare. That makes it great for any child of course!

Drake’s
(Cat’s favorite)
242 Morrell Rd, Knoxville, TN 37919
Drake’s in Knoxville is a lively spot with bar tables, great burgers, craft beers, and smoky barbecue that hits the spot. The music is loud and energetic, adding to the fun atmosphere. Surprisingly, the kids’ menu has plenty of choices, actually making it a strong option for families as well.
